Fluidized bed boilers use the principle of burning fuels in a fluidized bed. A fluidized bed creates conditions suitable for the uniform combustion of fuel throughout its volume, which means, as a final result, more perfect fuel burn-up (high efficiency of a fluidized bed boiler) at lower combustion temperatures and whilst reducing the production of harmful waste gases.

ABSTRACT The pressurized fluidized bed combustion of coal and regeneration of spent sorbent were studied in the continuous Ib coal/hr ( kg/hr) "miniplant" FBC unit. The effect of coal sulfur content and the use of pre- calcined limestone sorbent on control of SC>2 emissions was studied.

These studies support the development studies for atmospheric and pressurized fluidized-bed coal combustion. Laboratory and bench-scale (process development unit) studies are aimed at providing needed information on regeneration process development, control of alkali metal and SO/sub 2/ emissions during combustion, particle loadings in the flue gas, and other tasks.
